Ivory card case with crabs and fish in high relief, Hong Kong, 1936. An ivory card case of undulating rectangular form. The top side is carved in high relief with small fish, crabs and cockles in high relief. The underside is plain but has two windows with low relief carving and the initials of the cardholder, Mary Ariel Stewart Deacon (1871-1947) - MASD was the grandmother of BSM (founder of the Museum of East Asian Art). This card case was made for her whilst she was in Hong Kong in 1936.
