An old sketch of the White Horse Inn, Barnby Moor during the coaching era. On the 1 6th October, 1786, the first mail coach from London, by the Great North Road, set forth on its journey. The first change of horses in Yorkshire was at Doncaster. The coach was horsed from Barnby Moor to Doncaster by Mr. Stanuel, who, at that time, kept the Red Lion Inn, in Scott Lane. Quite a crowd assembled to meet it, and it was horsed on the stage between Doncaster and Ferrybridge by Mr. Woodcock, of the Old Angel Inn, Frenchgate, the oldest established posting house in Doncaster.
