Bronze banana plant (Musa laterita). At the top of the stem are the flowers (yellow) protected by by red casings. These will develop into fruits as seen lower down on the plant stem. In commercially grown bananas, the fruits develop without fertilisation and pollination of the flowers (parthenocarpy) and it is only in the wild that the fruit develops after fertilisation and pollination of the flowers.
