The calix, inboth, is fhorter than the corolla, and falls off before theexpanfion of the flower : the petals are eight in number :,the filaments are fhorter than the corolla : the ftigma is per--fiflent. But the relation of the Jefftrfonia to the two ge-nera, jufl; mentioned, is, perhaps, ftill greater than it to be, from the mere circumflances which I havetaken notice of.
