The lar\fe giow| repidly, and at maturity are nearly one inch in leDgth. The de- foliation "of the larger trees near the centre of the grove was almost complete. On July 20th no larvae could be found ; those that had survived the Paris Green had descended to the ground, and pupated. The oval, spindle-shaped pupte (Fig. 9 b) could be found quite abundantly under the trees among the litter of leaves.
