MEDIA DRUM WORLD+44 (0) 333 321 1546 Fraud High School By Aimee Braniff Cree **EXCLUSIVE** THIS almost perfectly preserved high school was once a staple in the community but had its reputation tarnished by a con-artist who stole from sports stars and was only stopped by the FBI. They show Holy Cross High School, New Orleans, USA, the property dates back to 1837 and the area has become a Federal Historic District known as the Holy Cross District. The area was left devastated by hurricane Katrina in 2005 and faced controversy in 2016 when notorious financial advisor Peggy Fulford put the property at the centre of one of several fraudulent activities. The High School operated 1879 - 2007, it has been abandoned for 15 years. There was hope for the building in 2012 when Perez Ltd a New Orleans developer bought the site with plans for redevelopment. Perez cited plans for office blocks in the building and intended to open a coffee or sandwich shop on the first floor; to date no advancements have been made. The abandoned building did contribute to a crime in 2016 when famed con woman Peggy Fulford used the property to con a doctor out of $371,000 believing he was investing in the school with Fulford and they would turn the building into a nursing home. Fulford famously conned NBA stars such as Dennis Rodman out of millions by becoming their financial advisors and stealing from them and blaming any shortfalls in her clients? accounts on administrative errors or even on their own spending habits. Fulford was arrested in New Orleans and transported to Houston, Texas for sentencing. She was convicted to 13 years in prison for her cons and is now serving her sentence in Texas.
