Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi. Landscape with a Luteplayer. 1627. Venice. Etching on ivory laid paper Giovanni Francesco. Grimaldi was a painter, architect, and etcher of over 50 landscapes, many inspired by the Venetian prints of Titian and Domenico Campagnola. The stylized, decorative branches of the tall tree on the right of the print are characteristic of Grimaldi’s distinctive graphic style. This is a copy in reverse of one of the earliest known etchings by Grimaldi, demonstrating his lasting influence.
