Hut in the Ream National Park. Situated 13km east of Sihanoukville, Ream National Park is a great place to view Cambodia's wildlife. The sandy beaches, mangrove forests, monkeys and dolphins make it a favourite among locals. A moto to the park's headquarters should cost USaround US$2. From here, guided walking tours with rangers can be arranged from USaround US$5. Boat tours around the park cost around US$20 for a boat holding four people. Ream National Park offers numerous possibilities for nature lovers, hikers and tourists alike. A boat trips down the Prek Toeuk Sap River gives you the option of visiting four islands: Koh Thmei, Koh Ses, Koh Sam Pouch, and Koh Kchang, where you find beautiful beaches, fishing villages and the opportunity to snorkel and experience the diverse marine life; the park encompasses 6,000 hectares of marine life, so this is well worth the experience. If hiking is what you're into, then trips to Medidation Mountain (2 hour walk), Keng Kong Waterfall, and Tould Creek (2-3 hours) are popular trips. It is advisable to get a guide to enrich your knowledge of the park, and it is very easy to get lost on your own. A guide can be hired for just a few are many rare species in the park, including nearly 200 species of bird, making the park a haven for birdwatchers. It may be possible to purchase fish from the fishermen; on my trip to Ream National Park a small group of us purchased fresh oysters from women who we had seen by the oyster beds just hours before.
