Sirs You are ere this no doubt informed that the citizens of St Louis in imitation of laudable examples from other cities, & under the prompting of a desire to promote kind & charitable acts towards the soldiers exposed in the field or hospitals, have undertaken to promote & hold a ?ǣSanitary Fair ? beginning on Tuesday, the 17th of May next, under the name of the ?ǣMississippi Valley Sanitary Fair-. ? Among other Committees for this good object, a ?ǣCentral Finance Committee ? has been appointed, which the undersigned have the honor to represent. As the style of this Committee indicates, its duties are to promote the finances, to assist in procuring means for the inauguration & support of the ?ǣMississippi Valley Sanitary Fair. ? In order to insure the most extensive co-operation, it has been deemed proper to appeal to you for your assistance.
