Under the new UN Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) this chemical requires a corrosive hazard label, GHS05. The pictogram warns that this strong acid (H2SO4) is extremely corrosive and causes severe skin burns and eye damage. As well as the symbol there is a signal word and suppliers provide a numbered statement (H314) that gives more information. It is a basic laboratory chemical, used in a wide range of reactions, and is also used extensively in the chemical industry
