Llaneilian Church, Anglesey, showing the C12th west tower with its original pyramidal stone spire and restored ochre limewash harling. Rising moon.

The C12th W tower with original pyramidal stone spire of St Eilian's Church, Llaneilian, Anglesey, lit by the last rays of sunshine on a winter's day. In 2002 the tower was given a harling finish with 5 coats of lime wash with local ochre pigment to restore it to its original medieval appearance. Reference in Medieval manuscript: "Gwynedd sparkled with lime washed churches like the firmament of stars." Nave & chancel rebuilt late C15th, S porch built early C16th, St Eilian's Chapel built late C14th & connected to chancel by a passage dated 1614. Remains of a churchyard cross stand on a drystone calvary of three steps.
