Kashmiri children look on near bundles of wicker sticks on the outskirts of Srinagar city. Wicker is used for making traditional firepots called kangri in kashmir. Wicker weaving has been a part of so many cultures around the world, and is in fact the oldest and most widespread of human activities. Kashmir has been growing willow traditionally on the river banks, swampy or wastelands and is considered a major intervention to stop soil erosion.
