James Scott, Duke of Monmouth & Duke of Buccleuch (1649 – 1685) was a Dutch born English nobleman who claimed the crown of England. Born James Crofts / James Fitzroy, the illegitimate son of Charles II of England & his mistress Lucy Walter. He attained the British titles Earl of Doncaster & Baron Scott of Tynedale, On King The famous Mountain Ash tree 1845. Charles II's death in 1685, Monmouth led the Monmouth Rebellion. At the Battle of Sedgemoor, Monmouth lost to the Kings men & was captured, disguised as a shepherd under this Mountain Ash (Rowan Tree) in a pea field. (Later executed)
