Steatite scaraboid seal, Geometric, 8th century , Greek, Steatite, H.: 1 5/16 in. ( cm), Gems, Flattened scaraboid of green, translucent steatite, perforated horizontally. Two men, in reversed positions, on either side of a large quadruped. The latter has its mouth wide open and is perhaps a lion, for ot has a long, tufted tail; but the long, erect ears (or horns) make the identity uncertain
