They were divided intotwo classes ; one of which studied the art of mining, whilst theothers applied themselves to every branch of military architecture*and might more properly have been called engineers. They weregoverned by a Bashe and an Intendant; and were instructed bythe professors and assistants of the mathematical school, who weredirected to write instructive treatises. The miners furnished bythe old system, that is, those who were possessed of military fiefs.,and the cadets raised by the new constitution, employed them-selves daily (excepting on Tuesdays and Fridays) in drawing plansand designing models in wood and plaster, the
