The first speaker was Mr W Stephenson, ex-editor of the 'Daily Herald' (visible background centre). According to the original caption, Mr Stephenson said that Americans 'annoys us by leaning against lamp posts, chewing gum and flashing their money I have never met an American who was not a really good chap'.
