The SRTM’s main antenna emits radar waves in the C-band ( to GHz) and X-band ( to GHz) toward the zone to be mapped. The zone reflects the radiation with an intensity that depends on the nature of its surface and its relief. The digital combination of signals collected by the SRTM’s two antennas (main and external).makes it possible to generate a three-dimensional image zone observed.
