Pakistan, Taxila the historical site not far from Islamabad in northern Pakistan state of Punjab in 1996. Situated on the Grand Trunk Road and the ancient Silk Route, Taxila reached its prominence between the 1st and 5th centuries as a seat of Buddhist learning. The city declined in the 7th century due to petty quarrels among the nobility. Nothing new there then. Taxila is also famous as part of Rudyard Kipling novel Kim being located on the Grand Trunk Road that connects Kabul in Afghanistan to Calcutta in India
