An early portrait of Australian actor, film actor and producer Oscar Asche. Full name John Stange(r) Heiss Oscar Asche ( 871 – 23 March 1936),he was an Australian actor, director, and writer, best known for having written, directed, and acted in the record-breaking musical Chu Chin Chow. He acted both on stage and on film and directed / produced lots of successful Shakespeare plays and musicals. Asche and his wife (Elizabeth Lily Brayton ) became managers of the Adelphi Theatre in 1904 and His Majesty's Theatre in 1907
