Dead Mute Swan Cygnet Taken at Wigan Flashes Nature Reserve, UK


A number of Mute Swans on lakes in North-west England succumbed to an illness during February and March 2011. The cause was Clostridium perfringens (formerly known as C. welchii) a Gram-positive, rod-shaped, anaerobic, spore-forming bacterium.
