Iodine starch test. Iodine solution and pipette with a whole potato at left and a cut potato at right. The iodine has been pipetted into the cut surface of the potato at right. The iodine then turned from orange to black. This is a positive result for the presence of starch. Starch is a carbohydrate that is used by plants as a store of energy.
