Fossil Butte National Monument, managed by the National Park Service, contains 8198 acres and protects a portion of the largest deposit of freshwater fish fossils in the world. It is the site of a 52 million year old lake bed that draws fossil scientists from all over the world, but it is one of the least visited units of the National Park Service.
