Holker Hall and Gardens in south Cumbria, close to the edge of the Lake District National Park

Holker Hall is located on the western side of the Cartmel peninsula in south Cumbria, close to the edge of the Lake District National Park. It was built in the sixteenth century, although the house that exists today is largely Victorian, built after the original was destroyed in a fire in 1871. The Cavendish family have owned the estate since 1756. As well as the house, there are 25 acres of landscaped gardens and 200 acres of parkland that are open to the public.
