Though called smooth, the leaves are always more or less fringed at the edges. The ffowers are green, and grow in sessile tufts in the axils of the leaves, or not unfrequently crowded into leafy spikes. A form with narrow, hairy leaves (//. hirsuta) is found at Christ- church, in Hampshire.âFl. July to September.
