C asks of this kind, holdin<^ 301) oallons, may easily be placed in the bottom of a two-horse wag^on, leaving- abundant room for placing and operating the heavy hand pump. Such casks are shown in Pis. XXYII and XXVIII. 'I'he manner of securing the tank by placing side timbers inside of the wagon bolsters is shown in PI. XXTI, as is also the stirring stick Avhicli projects from a scjuare hole in the top of the cask. Rectangular plank tanks are used by some, but it is generally found more difficult to keep them from leaking than in the case of casks, where the hoops may be tightened at will. Numerous spray carts, bar- rel attachments, etc., are illustrated in E. G. Lodeman's work on The Spraying of Plants. The use of iron tanks is rare, and is hardly to be advised for general spra}^ work, owing to the corrosive action of man}' sprays. For special sprays, as the kerosene emulsion, such tanks may, however, be safely emplo3^ed. All spra}" tanks should be arranged in such a manner as to be easily cleaned, especiall}^ where Bordeaux mixture or the sulphur spra3\s are to be used, and they should be provided with some means for stirring or agitating the spray. The entrance to all suction pipes should be guarded with fine brass wire screen. It is well to wash the tanks out thoroughh' at least once a da3^. Fig 10.—Pneumatic pump for general spraying.
