Diagram showing the radial structure of the rings of Jupiter, compared on the same scale as the planet. Jupiter’s rings are very faint, made primarily of dust rather than the ice that makes Saturn’s rings so bright and spectacular. There are three principle rings. Innermost is a torus called the halo. Next is the main ring, which is somewhat brighter, probably made of material ejected from two Jovian satellites. Lastly is the very extensive and tenuous gossamer ring.
