A large, West European decorative fitting, in insular style, 9th - 11th century Richly openworked, domed decorative fitting made of sheet bronze. Depiction of four panthers and eight peacocks surrounded by ornamental interlaced bands. With eight rectangular fastening perforations around the border. Metal with patina corresponding to underwater find, with minimal incrustation. Diameter cm. Provenance: Underwater find, circa 1920, from the mouth of the river Scheldt.
