SITUATION: Rare au Canada. Menacée d'extinction en Illinois et en Ohio. REMARQUES: Ressemble par la morphologie à S. patula Muhl., qui est fréquente dans les marécages et les prés détrempés des Carolines. Cette espèce possède des feuilles très rugueuses et une tige plutôt épaisse et anguleuse, alors que S. arguta est pourvue de feuilles glabres ou légèrement rudes et d'une tige arrondie.
