The gel contains platelet growth factor (blue) that activates tyrosine kynase cell receptors (across centre) to increase the production of platelets (a type of blood cell). Across bottom, the effects of increasing (centre) atmospheric oxygen levels (green) is an increase in oxygen levels below the skin (blue). This leads to faster wound healing (upper right) even when oxygen pressure is returned to normal (lower right).
