Laennec, René-Théophile-Hyacinthe (Quimper, 1781Kerlouarnec, 1826). French doctor. In 1816 he introduced the use of a hollow tube to listen to the lungs and heart, giving rise to the modern stethoscope. He gathered his studies of auscultation in the play "Traité de lauscultation Mediate" (1819)
