Communities Secretary James Brokenshire seen in Downing Street. On 14 June 2017, a fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of flats in North Kensington, West London where 72 people died, more than 70 others were injured and 223 people escaped. The UK Government is to fund an estimated £200 million to replacement of unsafe Grenfell style cladding on around 170 high-rise private residential buildings after private building owners failed to take action. Communities Secretary James Brokenshire said inaction from building owners had compelled the government to act.
