Young Ralphs Cross Blakey North York Moors National Park Yorkshire


Ralph's Cross, Rosedale Head, North Yorkshire. This cross will be very familiar to travellers between Hutton-le-Hole and Castleton on the North Yorks Moors. It is also the symbol of the North Yorks Moors National Park. There has been a cross on this site since about 1200AD, the present cross dates back to the 18th century. Legend tells of a penniless beggar (Ralph) who died at the site of the cross, since when travellers have left coins on the top of the stone.
