Monument to French road accident victims - see Description for full details.

The Memorial For The Future by Francoise Jolivet was erected by the French National Memorial Association for Road Accident Victims in the Aire du Curney rest area of the A6 motorway. It was commissioned to commemorate the Beaune motorway accident in which 53 people including 44 children were killed, and to raise awareness of the tragedy of traffic accidents. The accident occurred on the nearby motorway on 31 July 1982 and is still France's worst traffic accident. Following the accident France banned public transport vehicles from carrying children on the busiest day of the year (usually the weekend at the end of July and beginning of August); a ban which is still in force.
