Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by magnificent red dunes, formed from deposits from the Tsauchab River before its flow was blocked by sand dunes. The word 'Sossusvlei' means 'dead-end marsh' and although the name originally referred to the pan,it now means the large area of huge red dunes that comprise Sossusvlei National Park. Western Namibia, near the town of Sesriem,Africa.
