His works such as The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers have been widely translated throughout the world. His aristocratic father was General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, who was born in the French colony of Saint-Domingue (now Haiti) to parents Alexandre Antoine Davy de la Pailleterie, a French nobleman, and Marie-Cessette Dumas, an African slave. His mother was Marie-Louise Labouret
