Casa Bloc will welcome the first Syrian refugees in november 2015

In the building Casa Bloc in San Andreu, a suburb of Barcelona, apartments are prepared by the municipality to host the Syrian refugees that are arriving from Italy and Greece. It is estimated that around 1200 refugees will arrive to Catalunya before the end of November, of which about 60 percent will probably stay in Barcelona. Casa Bloc, a residential building constructed between 1932 and 1936, is considered as a symbol of rationalist architecture, since it started as an innovative social project to dignify the working class conditions of laborers in the 1930s. It was declared as a protected heritage monument by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1992.
