Bhumibol Adulyadej (Phumiphon Adunyadet; 5 December 1927 - 13 October 2016) was the King of Thailand. He was known as Rama IX (and within the Thai royal family and to close associates simply as Lek. Having reigned from 9 June 1946, he was the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history.
