The Piazza dei Cavalieri in Pisa refers to the Knights of St Stephen established by Cosimo the First. This huge square, possibly the site of the Roman Forum and a previous main civic square of Medieval Pisa. In this image is the Palazzo della'Orologio, the Clock Palace. It was originally two medieval towers but in the C17 they were joined by a vaulted passageway. Today it houses the library of the nearby Scuola Normale Superiore.
