Lifeboat and evacuation drill on the deck of RMS Cavina, between 1942-1945. The ship was a requisitioned Fyffes banana boat, refitted in 1942 for the passenger and cargo service from the UK to Canada. According to Captain Samuel Browne: "We saw much action while in convoy and had many narrow escapes from collision. It was a great relief when the war ended, when one could carry steaming lights at night and do away with black-out precautions." Capt. Browne had been torpedoed in both World Wars.
