Activists protest against the Monsanto company and genetically modified food.

Activists gather in Bryant Park and march in New York on Saturday, October 12, 2013 during a worldwide protest against the Monsanto company and genetically modified food. The activists contend that genetically modified foods can lead to serious health problems including cancer and reduce the nutritional content of food. Genetically modified soy and grains make up almost 100 percent of the market notably because of the success of Monsanto's Round-Up Ready seeds and herbicides. (© Richard B. Levine)
