Potato pest resistance research. Geneticists examining resistant (being held) and susceptible potato plants that have been infected with Phytophthora

Potato pest resistance research. Geneticists examining resistant (being held) and susceptible potato plants that have been infected with Phytophthora infestans, the micro-organism that causes the disease known as late blight. This is part of a study to find wild potato plants that contain resistance to important diseases plaguing potato growers. The plants will then be used to produce commercial plants with similar resistance. Photographed at the ARS (Agricultural Research Service) Vegetable Crops Research Unit,Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
