Letter from John Dryden to Laurence Hyde, c1682-1683. Letter from the poet John Dryden to Laurence Hyde, Earl of Rochester, First Lord of the Treasury on his necessities, begging for a half-year's salary (as Poet Laureate and Historiographer) and for a post in the Customs or Excise. Without date but probably written in 1682 or 1683. He was made collector of customs in the Port of London on 17th December, 1683. From the first series of Facsimiles of royal, historical, literary and other autographs in the Department of Manuscripts, British Museum: Series I - V, (London, 1899).
