Macro of Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) taken at Lydiard Park, Swindon, Wiltshire


Snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) Flowering stems grow to 25cm tall. The nodding white flowers are solitary on stems and have three outer petals and three shorter green-tipped inner petals. The long narrow leaves all grow from the base of the plant and are keeled. Favours damp areas and is a hairless perennial of woodlands, riverbanks and wasteland. The whole plant is poisonous. Flowers January to March.
