brilliant colors,embroidery and exotic jewellery are traditionally worn by Banni tribal women and girls in Gujarat,India


Banni tribal groups live in in villages near Bhuj in Gujarat. It is necessary to obtain special permits to visit them. The women are remarkable for their Vivid sense of colour reflected in their everyday dress and embroidery skills for which they are famous. They wear elaborate jewellery including huge noserings and massed bangles almost to rheir shoulders. these were originally made of ivory inlaid with gold chip but now are of plastic with red glass. They are traditionally presented to the woman on the occasion of her marriage by her maternal uncle
