Imperatrice plum, Prunus domestica. Handcoloured copperplate engraving by S. Watts from a botanical illustration by Augusta Withers from John Lindley's "Pomological Magazine," James Ridgway, London, 1828. The magazine was published in three volumes from 1828 to 1830 and discontinued at plate 152 because of a dispute between the editors. Lindley (1795-1865) was an English botanist and gardener who published books on roses, orchids, and fruit. Mrs. Withers (1793-1877) was an eminent Victorian botanical artist and Flower Painter in Ordinary to Queen Adelaide.
