Bananas Foster is being prepared in a flambé pan at Brennan's Restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, where the famed dessert was created by Chef Paul Blange in 1951. The bananas are heated in a sauce of butter, sugar, cinnamon, banana liqueur and rum prior to being set aflame and dished over vanilla ice cream. This culinary treat was named for Richard Foster, a good friend of the restaurant's founder, Owen Edward Brennan. In 2013, the landmark 67-year-old restaurant closed unexpectedly due to Brennan family squabbles and financial troubles, but it was reopened in late 2014 after a complete renovation. Its celebrated bananas foster dessert is still on the menu and prepared tableside.
