Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus or Artocarpus heterophylla) Malaysia


The name "Jackfruit" is derived from the Portuguese jaca, which in turn, is derived from the Malayalam language term, Portuguese first arrived in India along the Kerala Coast. The Malabar name Tsjaka was recorded by Hendrik van Rheede in the Hortus Malabaricus (1678-1703).
