American Poet Laureate Robert Frost's remains are buried in the cemetery next to Old First Church in Bennington, Vermont. Although he was not a member of the church, he read his poem, The Black Cottage, at the church's rededication in 1937 when it was designated "Vermont's Colonial Shrine" and the cemetery, "Vermont's Sacred Acre." Frost bought two lots in 1940 for a family burial place.
