Nordkraft was built in 1947 as the city's power station, and continued in operation until 1999. Instead of turning the building into flats and offices, Aalborg Municipality commissioned CUBO Architects to restore it for mixed use, while preserving its unique atmosphere. In 2009, the reborn Nordkraft opened, its 30,000 sq m housing a gym, offices, university facilities, restaurants, an art gallery, a cinema and a theatre.
