Distributing food at the Five Points Mission, Lower Manhattan, New York City. The Five Points neighbourhood was a densely populated, disease-ridden, crime-infested slum for more than 70 years until the women of the Five Points Mission took action. This Methodist charity group provided housing, clothes, food, and education as part of their endeavour. From America Revisited: From The Bay of New York to The Gulf of Mexico, published 1886.
